Memmingen: The gate to the Allgäu
Memmingen in the Allgäu is just the right place for lovers of medieval cities and historical charm. Here you will find one of the best preserved old towns in Southern Germany. Numerous city gates, towers and the largely preserved city walls testify to the turbulent times as a medieval trading city.
Magnificent buildings such as the Town Hall, the Tax House, the Grand Duchy or the Paris House are a delight to every culture lover. Also noteworthy are the venerable churches of St. Martin that features one of Germany’s largest choir stalls or the Frauenkirche with paintings from the 15th century. The restored Kreuzherrnkirche is a jewel of the Upper Swabian baroque street. A walk through the winding alleys of the old town not only passes past historic buildings and squares, but also numerous parks and gardens as well as the idyllic town creek.
